View full detailsIt's the middle of the season. The fairways are showing stress, water isn't moving through the way it should, and the standard core aerator is sitting idle because conditions aren't right for a clean plug pull. That's the situation 1st Products designed the AERA-vator for.
Built in Tifton, Georgia since 1980, the first products aerator lineup is used by golf course superintendents, sports field managers, and landscape contractors who need professional aerification equipment results without waiting on perfect moisture conditions.
The lineup covers two professional tool types: the patented AERA-vator for compaction relief without pulling plugs, and the VERTI-cutter for thatch removal and overseeding prep. Root Revive Direct is an authorized 1st Products dealer, so every order ships with full manufacturer warranty coverage.

Iowa State University Extension confirms that mechanical aeration relieves soil compaction and improves water and nutrient movement, two outcomes that directly affect turf health and playability. How that aeration is delivered is where the first products aerator approach separates itself from standard core equipment.
No-core solid tine design: The AERA-vator runs solid vibrating tines at over 800 cycles per minute. The tines fracture compacted soil and open channels for air, water, and nutrients without pulling anything out. No plugs on the surface means no cleanup pass and a cleaner result the same day the machine runs.
Wider moisture window: Core aerators need near-ideal soil moisture to pull a clean plug. The AERA-vator doesn't pull a plug, so it works across a wider range of conditions, including moderately dry ground where conventional machines leave a poor result or can't penetrate cleanly at all.
Modular shaft configurations: UA-series AERA-vators accept coring, slicer, spiker, and multi-tine shafts, plus an optional power seeder conversion. One machine covers aerification and overseeding in a single pass, which matters when you're managing a tight maintenance window on a course or sports field.
46 years of domestic manufacturing: 1st Products has built its equipment at the same Tifton, Georgia facility since 1980. For a turf manager buying equipment that needs to hold up across years of commercial-duty schedules, that track record is more relevant than a spec sheet.
Patented design, professional buyer base: 1st Products holds patents on the AERA-vator mechanism. The primary customer base is golf courses, sports complexes, and commercial landscape operations, buyers who measure results in turf performance metrics, not price per unit. The market tells you something about the product.
1-Year Limited Manufacturer Warranty: Every 1st Products unit carries a 1-year limited manufacturer warranty. As an authorized dealer, Root Revive Direct backs that warranty with full coverage from day one of purchase.
The UA60 is the best-selling model in the 1st products aera-vator lineup, and it's easy to see why. At 60 inches wide, it covers golf fairways and sports fields efficiently. It runs on tractors as low as 25 HP and accepts the full range of shaft options, including an optional seed box that handles aerification and overseeding in one pass.
60" working width | 347 lb frame weight
800 cycles/min at 540 PTO RPM | 3-point hitch mount
Optional seed box available for simultaneous overseeding
Not every program runs a PTO tractor. The AE40E is the 1st products aera-vator built for that situation. Its 11 HP Honda engine runs independently, and the only requirement from the tow vehicle is a 12V electric connection. Schools, sports complexes, and contractors who need professional aerification equipment without a dedicated tractor setup will find this is the right configuration.
40" working width | self-contained 11 HP Honda engine
825 cycles/min at 3,600 RPM | approximately 575 lb
Tow with any vehicle that provides 12V electric, no PTO required
The VC60 is the heavy-duty end of the VERTI-cutter series, built for golf and sports turf managers dealing with thatch buildup and pre-overseeding surface prep on larger turf areas. The 54-inch working width moves efficiently behind a compact or mid-size tractor. The patented swing hitch lets operators work around obstacles without stopping to reposition the attachment.
54" working width | 900 lb | 3-point Cat. 1, 540 PTO
Blade depth adjustable from 0 to 1⅛" for surface or aggressive cutting
Patented swing hitch | double roller depth gauge for consistent depth over uneven turf
The aera-vator for sale lineup covers five configurations matched to different tow vehicles and program types. The UA40, UA60, and UA80 are 3-point hitch PTO units covering 40 to 80 inches, with tractor requirements starting at 18 HP for the UA40 and 25 HP for the UA60. These three handle the core aerification equipment work for most commercial turf programs.
The AE40E is the self-contained tow-behind for operations without a PTO tractor. The DO40 is the hydraulic-drive attachment for mini skid steer setups. If a tow-behind aerator is already in your program rotation, the UA-series slots in as the compaction-relief step without changing anything else in your equipment plan.
UA40/UA60/UA80: working widths of 40", 60", and 80" | 3-point hitch | 540 PTO
AE40E: self-contained tow-behind with 11 HP Honda | requires 12V source only
DO40 Mini Skid Steer: hydraulic-drive attachment | minimum 1,800 PSI at 8 GPM
The VERTI-cutter targets a different problem than the AERA-vator. Where the AERA-vator works below the surface on compaction, the VERTI-cutter uses vertical blades to pull thatch, thin turf stands, and cut the surface conditions that make overseeding stick.
Both models run on 3-point Cat. 1 hitch and 540 PTO, requiring 20 to 45 HP depending on blade depth. The VC40 covers 35.5 inches for tighter areas; the VC60 covers 54 inches for larger programs. For programs running a dedicated turf dethatching machine alongside their aerification schedule, the VC series handles the heavier surface work that lighter residential dethatchers aren't built for.
Blade spacing adjustable from 1/2" to 2" in 1/4" increments on both models
Double roller depth gauge system maintains consistent cutting depth over surface undulations
Compacted soil, restricted root growth, poor water infiltration? That's the AERA-vator's job. Thatch buildup, surface organic accumulation, seedbed prep before overseeding? That's the VERTI-cutter.
The two tools work at different depths and address different problems. Most professional golf and sports turf programs run both in rotation, the AERA-vator handles seasonal aerification and the VERTI-cutter handles pre-overseeding surface prep.
If your program only has budget for one right now, start with whichever problem your turf is showing first.
"The first time I saw a AERA-vator in use was in the late 80's. We used it on a path that the park district was using to drive semi's over for 3 years. Three weeks later the path was grassed over. It is a wonderful tool."— Tom F., Hinsdale Central High School
"We purchased our VC 60 in 2005 and it has been one of the most dependable and valuable units on the course ever since."— Roger Evans, Owner/General Manager, North Star Golf Club, Fairbanks, Alaska
Root Revive Direct is an authorized dealer for 1st Products. Every AERA-vator and VERTI-cutter purchased here carries the full 1-year limited manufacturer warranty, backed by the manufacturer directly. Not a third-party marketplace, not a general reseller.
The AERA-vator uses solid vibrating tines oscillating at 800+ cycles/min to fracture compacted soil without pulling plugs. Standard core aerators extract hollow-tine plugs. The result: similar compaction relief with no cleanup required and less surface disruption.
The three differ in working width and tractor requirement. The UA40 covers 40" and needs as little as 18 HP. The UA60 covers 60", requires 25 HP, and is the brand's best-seller. The UA80 covers 80" for large-acreage commercial turf programs.
UA40/60/80 require a 3-point hitch tractor with 540 PTO, starting at 18 HP. The AE40E is self-contained with a Honda engine; any pull vehicle with 12V electric works. The DO40 requires a mini skid steer with 1,800 PSI at 8 GPM hydraulic flow.
The VERTI-cutter is the right tool when thatch buildup or seedbed preparation is the problem. The first products aerator is the right tool when soil compaction and restricted root-zone aeration are the issue. The two work differently and target different layers of the turf profile. Most professional golf and sports turf programs run both in rotation.
Your turf program has specific equipment, specific field conditions, and a specific schedule. The right 1st Products configuration depends on all three. The aera-vator for sale lineup runs from 40 to 80 inches across PTO, self-contained, and hydraulic-drive setups. The VERTI-cutters handle the surface prep side. Between the two, the lineup covers the compaction and thatch problems that show up most often in managed turf programs.
